Milne Crescent

Milne Crescent in Taitā, Lower Hutt is named after William Scott Milne, who arrived in New Zealand on the ship “Lady Nugent” on 17th March 1841, at the age of 16, and established his home in Taitā, Lower Hutt. On December 31, 1847, William Scott Milne married Grace Yule when he was 23, and she was 18 years old. The Milne and Yule family owned neighbouring land in Taitā. Most of this land is now taken up by Avalon Park.

William Scott Milne’s contributions extended beyond his personal life. He served as a dedicated community leader, representing the Hutt District on the Wellington Provincial Council. His service spanned from 1856 to 1857 and then again from 1865 until the council’s disbandment in 1876.
