Sun Valley Grove, in the subdivision located on the former Sun Valley school site at 67 Meremere Street, carried a significant historical background. The developer of the subdivision had requested the name Sun Valley Grove for one of the two new roads within the development.
The history of Sun Valley School played a central role in the naming of this street. Sun Valley School was established in 1978 and operated until its merger with Parkway School on 31st December 2001. The merger was announced by the then Minister of Education, Trevor Mallard, resulting in the formation of Konini Primary School.
During the 1960s, there was a movement advocating for the renaming of Wainuiomata as “Sun Valley” but this did not eventuate.
The decision was made in September 2005 by the Hutt City Council’s Operations and Compliance Committee (Report No.O&C2005/5/3)i. The neighbouring street Sun Valley Way was made at the same time.
