In the 1970s, his passion for cycling led him to assume the presidency of the Wainuiomata Cycling Club for an impressive seven years, mentoring young athletes and guiding them toward success. In the 1980s, Brian established IB HUGHES Plumbing, later evolving into IBH Construction, which continues to thrive and provide employment opportunities to locals.
