A subdivision was developed off The Strand in Wainuiomata, which included the creation of a new grove. The developer of the subdivision made a request to the council to bestow a name upon this newly constructed grove, and the chosen name became Woodland Grove.
The name Woodland Grove was chosen with a deep appreciation for the area’s historical significance. It harks back to a time when the land that now makes up the grove was vast farmland that stretched from Wright Street to Upper Fitzherbert Road, reaching all the way to the Main Road. Local residents fondly referred to this expansive agricultural expanse as Woodlands.
The decision was made by the Operations and Compliance Committee at Hutt City Council on 10th August 2006.
