Tauhou Lane

Tauhou is the Mãori name for the silvereye, or wax eye, native bird which can be found in the bush areas around Wainuiomata. Tauhou literally translates into “New Arrival”, which also nicely describes the recent new uprising of Wainuiomata as a great place to live.

The name “Tauhou Lane” was chosen by the Wainuiomata Community Board on the 3rd of November 2021i, it further emphasizes the local community’s involvement and decision-making in the naming process. The Wainuiomata Community Board recognised the significance and relevance of the name “Tauhou Lane” for the new private road in the subdivision at 196B Wise Street, Wainuiomata.
